Laura Falkowski, Collage Artist:
Originally a Massachusetts native, earned a liberal arts degree from Framingham State University. During her college years, Laura explored her creativity through art classes at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Massachusetts College of Art & Design.
After graduation, Laura moved to California to begin her career in retail. Inspired by her mother’s love of fashion, she pursued a career as an apparel buyer. Later, an appreciation for craftsmanship drew her to the home décor industry. Laura traveled extensively to buy and source items from countries renowned for their artisanal traditions, including China, India, Vietnam, and Thailand.
The pandemic offered a pause to reconnect with her artistic roots. Laura began taking drawing courses at UCLA Extension. The program also introduced her to the wider contemporary art world through studio tours and gallery visits, deepening her appreciation and broadening her perspective.
During this transformative period, Laura discovered collage. After retiring in spring 2021, she began working under the guidance of artist and educator Nicole J. Cohen’s mentorship helped her fully explore collage as a vibrant, expressive art form. The medium sparked a creative renewal, and she embraced it as her primary form of expression.
